Tax revenue falls along with taxpayers’ income – national sales tax Coming

Federal tax revenue plunged $138 billion, or 34%, in April vs. a year ago the biggest April drop since 1981, a study released Tuesday by the American Institute for Economic Research says.
When the economy slumps, so does tax revenue, and this recession has been no different, says Kerry Lynch, senior fellow at the AIER and author of the study. “It illustrates how severe the recession has been.”

For example, 6 million people lost jobs in the 12 months ended in April and that means far fewer dollars from income taxes. Income tax revenue dropped 44% from a year ago.Read More

“These are staggering numbers,” Lynch says.

Big revenue losses mean that the U.S. budget deficit may be larger than predicted this year and in future years.

Higher Sales Tax on the way?

Once Considered Unthinkable, U.S. Sales Tax Gets Fresh Look

With budget deficits soaring and President Obama pushing a trillion-dollar-plus expansion of health coverage, some Washington policymakers are taking a fresh look at a money-making idea long considered politically taboo: a national sales tax.

Common around the world, including in Europe, such a tax called a value-added tax, or VAT – has not been seriously considered in the United States. But advocates say few other options can generate the kind of money the nation will need to avert fiscal calamity.

At a White House conference earlier this year on the government’s budget problems, a roomful of tax experts pleaded with Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner to consider a VAT. A recent flurry of books and papers on the subject is attracting genuine, if furtive, interest in Congress. And last month, after wrestling with the White House over the massive deficits projected under Obama’s policies, the chairman of the Senate Budget Committee declared that a VAT should be part of the debate. There is More

In Raleigh, NC:
Bobby Snow is fed up with taxes now even more so over proposed new ones.

Snow, who owns Bob’s Quality Car Care in Verona, is speaking out against the proposed N.C. Senate Finance Committee’s new tax reform plan that includes taxing certain services.

He and other area business owners are traveling to Raleigh June 3 for the “Take Back Our State Tea Party,” a statewide protest organized by Take Back Our State Coalition against the state’s increasing taxes.

“We get taxed enough already,” Snow said. Tea Party June 3 Read More

Obama’s policies are causing Job and revenue losses in turn raising taxes on Americans poor and rich alike. Slowly turning into a socialist America. Prices of products and food has gone up and so has taxes on all Americans and will keep going up as long as Obama is in the White House.

UPDATE Social Security beneficiaries: Taxpayers to get rude surprise!

apg_stimulus_check_time_081127_mn

Millions of Americans enjoying their small windfall from President Barack Obama’s “Making Work Pay” tax credit are in for an unpleasant surprise next spring.

The government is going to want some of that money back.

The tax credit is supposed to provide up to $400 to individuals and $800 to married couples as part of the massive economic recovery package enacted in February. Most workers started receiving the credit through small increases in their paychecks in the past month.

But new tax withholding tables issued by the IRS could cause millions of taxpayers to get hundreds of dollars more than they are entitled to under the credit, money that will have to be repaid at tax time.

At-risk taxpayers include a broad swath of the public: married couples in which both spouses work; workers with more than one job; retirees who have federal income taxes withheld from their pension payments and Social Security recipients with jobs that provide taxable income. Keep reading…

UPDATE

Obama tax breaks may trip up seniors
Social Security beneficiaries received notices last month that they soon will be getting a $250 check courtesy of President Obama’s economic recovery package, but the administration did not say that some recipients may have to give part of it back.

The problem: Seniors who also work and qualify for Mr. Obama’s $400 Making Work Pay middle-class tax cuts may find themselves forced to give back some or all of the Social Security bonus come tax-filing time in 2010.

Congressional and IRS officials say taxpayers cannot double-dip into both programs. If you are getting extra Social Security money and benefit from a lower withholding in your paycheck, the two will have to be reconciled when you file your 2009 tax returns next year.

IRS Workers Stealing Your Cash!

ABC News Uncovers History of Contract Workers, IRS Employees Stealing Taxpayer Checks and Cash
Think your income tax check is safe when you send it off to the IRS? Think again. An ABC News investigation has uncovered case after case of checks being stolen, manipulated and cashed by contract employees responsible for processing them, resulting in delayed payments and heavily disrupted lives.

Last year, Miller sent a cashier’s check for more than $20,000 to the IRS, where it ended up in the hands of a Bank of America employee in Dallas who embezzled $485,539.76 in taxpayer remittance checks. Read More

Why should we not expect IRS Workers to steal our money? Obama does! Obama is stealing our children and grand kids money that they will earn for many years after we’re gone from this earth. We have to stop his spending spree.
