UPDATED: Religious Leaders Call for Civil Disobedience if….

A formidable coalition of 150 Catholic, Orthodox and evangelical leaders are calling on Christians in a new manifesto to reject secular authority and even engage in civil disobedience if laws force them to accept abortion, same-sex marriage and other ideas that betray their religious beliefs.

The White House is on a collision course with Catholic bishops in an intractable dispute over abortion that could blow up the fragile political coalition behind President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul.
A top Obama administration official on Thursday praised the new Senate health care bill’s attempt to find a compromise on abortion coverage _ even as an official of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops said Sen. Congressman Patrick Kennedy has been barred from receiving Communion by his Bishop in Rhode Island.
Bishop Thomas Tobin has barred Patrick, the son of the late Senator Edward Kennedy, because of his position on abortion rights.
“The bishop instructed me not to take Communion and said that he has instructed the diocesan priests not to give me Communion,” Kennedy told the Providence Journal.
It is not clear if other bishops will follow Tobin’s lead. Kennedy also attends Mass frequently in Massachusetts, where the family has a home.
Kennedy said the bishop had told him “that I am not a good practicing Catholic because of the positions that I’ve taken as a public official,” particularly on abortion.
The dispute between the two men began in October when Kennedy criticized the nation’s Catholic bishops for threatening to oppose health care legislation unless it included tighter controls on federally funded abortion. SOURCE

Black Evangelicals Emerging as New Conservatives (Good News)

A number of black evangelical leaders are rising up as a new voice in the conservative movement traditionally dominated by white Protestants.

Their centerpiece agendas are abortion and same-sex “marriage” – the same two key social issues emphasized by most conservative evangelicals.

But unlike the typical white evangelical Christian that is most likely part of the conservative wing of the Republican party, these African American leaders may be card-carrying Democrats but willing to switch over to the Republican side if their conservative values are addressed.

I think blacks and whites all see what is happening to their country and don’t like what they see. We’re all Americans and don’t want to become a socialist nation. We all still have our good morals!
