Some Governments Will Default on Debt

Global debt woes are severe enough that some governments will default on their bonds, says Arnaud Mares, an executive director at Morgan Stanley.

VAT Tax Hidden in Obama’s Health Reform

The evidence points toward the way big-government, slow-growth Europe does it: the value added tax.

Working as a sales tax that you don’t get to see on your receipt, the VAT has proven to be a brutally efficient money machine in other countries.  Maybe that’s why Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi last month told Charlie Rose that a VAT was “on the table” as a solution to America’s fiscal liabilities.

Britain will not take Gitmo terrorist prisoners despite begging by Barack Obama

European Union foreign ministers, meeting in Brussels, gave a warm welcome to the new US President’s decision to close the camp within a year. But most were lukewarm about the idea of taking in non-Europeans that the US does not intend to put on trial and who cannot be sent home for fear they might be mistreated.
