Kids in Colorado being asked to pay to ride school bus!

Parents in Colorado’s third-largest school district are being asked to pay if their kids want to ride the bus to school.

The Douglas County school board voted 5-0 Tuesday night to approve a 50-cent-per-ride transportation fee starting next school year. The decision will affect about 17,000 students who ride the bus this year. The district hopes to raise $2 million with the program.

The buses will have Zonar GPS units to track student ridership. Students will have a card or a ZPass that will track their use of the bus.

Douglas County Schools will have to pay $221,000 in three equal installments over the next three years to fully implement the GPS tracking technology. READ MORE AT SOURCE

Leave it to Colorado to come up with a charge to school children to ride a school bus to school! I guess they will get money from any where and any way they can, even from charging a fare to ride a school bus!

State of Colorado lower it’s minimum wage

Colorado will become the first state to reduce its minimum wage because of a falling cost of living.

The state Department of Labor and Employment ordered the wage down to $7.24 from $7.28. That’s lower than the federal minimum wage of $7.25, so most minimum wage workers would lose only 3 cents an hour.

Colorado is one of 10 states where the minimum wage is tied to inflation. The indexing is thought to protect low-wage workers from having flat wages as the cost of living goes up.

But because Colorado’s provision allows wage declines, the minimum wage will drop because of a falling consumer price index. It will be the first decrease in any state since the federal minimum wage law was passed in 1938. Read More

UPDATED 23 Sept: Federal Agents Searches Home of Colorado Man in Terror Probe

ben

Federal agents on Wednesday searched the home of a suburban Denver man identified by law enforcement as having a possible link to al-Qaida.

The task force also feared Zazi was involved in a potential plot involving homemade hydrogen peroxide-based explosives like those cited in an intelligence warning issued Monday, said the officials, who spoke on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about the investigation.

Zazi has denied he’s a central figure in a terrorism investigation that fed fears of a possible bomb plot and led to several police raids in New York City on Monday. Read More

Up to 24 More People Under Scrutiny as NYC Tightens Security in Terror Probe

Police in New York City stepped up their patrols and increased their random searches on subways and buses Wednesday following reports that as many as 24 more people are under observation in a suspected cross-country terror plot.

The feds circulated the internal alerts in the midst of the investigation into a suspected New York City-Colorado terror plot in which three people — an airport shuttle driver, his father and an imam — are in custody for allegedly lying to the government.

The three are due in court Thursday to face the charges.

The possible Al Qaeda-linked scheme may have included plans to detonate bombs stuffed into backpacks, much like the subway attacks carried out in Madrid and London, authorities say.
