President Barack Obama’s administration is understood to have told the British government that it could announce, as early as next week, the substantial increase to its 65,000 troops already serving there.

The decision from Mr Obama comes after he considered a request from General Stanley McChrystal, the US commander in Afghanistan, to send tens of thousands of extra American troops to the country.

Brits beware: Obama means business in Afghanistan

Mr Obama’s decision to dismiss Gen McKiernan is a bold move, and suggests that the new American president is determined to make a success of the military campaign in Afghanistan.

If Iraq was President George W. Bush’s war, Afghanistan is Obama’s war, and the U.S. president is clearly determined that this military campaign does not suffer the same setbacks as American forces experienced in Iraq.

By the time next year’s mid-term elections are held Mr Obama wants to be in a position to demonstrate that tangible progress is being made. Read More

Support grows among the Democrats for troop withdrawal

I can see it now or will I….The anti-war protesters will be out in full force marching against Obama or will the anti-war liberals now support the war? Remember the Afghanistan war is now Obama’s war and not President Bush’s war! Obama has turned the War into a political Afghanistan War like the Vietnam War was!  Wait a minute didn’t Obama just win a peace prize?

This is crazy!

In an unannounced move, President Barack Obama is dispatching an additional 13,000 US troops to Afghanistan beyond the 21,000 he announced publicly in March, The Washington Post reported.

The additional forces are primarily support forces such as engineers, medical personnel, intelligence experts and military police the Post said, bringing the total buildup Obama has approved for the war-torn nation to 34,000.

“Obama authorized the whole thing. The only thing you saw announced in a press release was the 21,000,” a defense official familiar with the troop-approval process told the daily. Read More

This is what we get from a president that has no experience, 13,000 US troops to Afghanistan when he was asked for 40,000 more troops by his picked commander on the ground. It’s like sending three boxers up against 20 boxers in a ring. These new troops are medical personnel, intelligence experts and military police. He is sending just enough to get more of out young men and women killed. Obama should have sent the 40,000 or bring all our troops home out of danger. General Stanley McChrystal should resign! He has now turned the Afghanistan War into a political War just as Vietnam was and its Obama’s War now not G.W. Bush’s!

UPDATE:

Eastern Europe not feeling the love from Obama

Czechs feel betrayed, Poles irked, Romanians slighted. Ask them who’s to blame, and the answer may come as a surprise: President Barack Obama.
And there could be consequences, warned Bartosz Weglarczyk, a columnist for the Gazeta Wyborcza newspaper.

“I have no doubt that under the new administration, Washington has neglected relations with Poland and with Central Europe as a whole. Some say, and I count myself among them, that it is a mistake and that one day Washington may pay dearly for it,” he said. Read More

Obama is between a rock and a hard spot. He promised the far left liberals to end the war in Iraq and to go after Osama bin Laden. Now he has done nothing that he promise his base. We have to win the war in Afghanistan or it will send a message to the rest of the World that America is weak and no will power to win. The question is will Obama go against his far left liberal base or move to the center and win this war in Afghanistan and go after Osama bin Laden?   Will Obama put politics above all else?
