The Supreme Court Overturns Sotomayor In Firefighter Case

The Supreme Court ruled Monday that white firefighters in New Haven, Conn., were unfairly denied promotions because of their race, reversing a decision that high court nominee Sonia Sotomayor endorsed as an appeals court judge.

New Haven was wrong to scrap a promotion exam because no African-Americans and only two Hispanic firefighters were likely to be made lieutenants or captains based on the results, the court said Monday in a 5-4 decision. The city said that it had acted to avoid a lawsuit from minorities.

The ruling could alter employment practices nationwide and make it harder to prove discrimination when there is no evidence it was intentional.

“Fear of litigation alone cannot justify an employer’s reliance on race to the detriment of individuals who passed the examinations and qualified for promotions,” Justice Anthony Kennedy said in his opinion for the court. McConnell: More Time Needed to Review Sotomayor
McConnell says that in the past few days some 300 boxes of materials have turned up from Sotomayor’s years as a lawyer with a legal advocacy group, the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund.

McConnell told “Fox News Sunday” that the committee needs time to go through the boxes.

Confirmation hearings for Sotomayor, who’s a federal appeals court judge, are set to begin July 13. Read More

Obama Breaks Promise not to raise taxes on people earning less than $250,000 to support his health care overhaul agenda.

The Obama White House left open the possibility Sunday that the president would break a campaign promise and raise taxes on people earning less than $250,000 to support his health care overhaul agenda.

Obama lied to the people again to get votes! He’s the World Biggest Lier! He does not seem to be able to tell the truth so why would Americans want him in the White House!  I would be ashame of myself if I had voted for such a lier!
