Can states secede?

There are three levels on which this question can be answered:

(1) the inalienable right of secession,
(2) the international law of secession, and
(3) the US law of secession.
All three say yes.

The Declaration of Independence of the United States of America invokes the self-evident truths that all men are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that governments are formed to protect these rights and gain their just powers from the consent of the governed, and that when a government becomes abusive of these rights, it is the right — no, it is the duty — of the people to alter or abolish that government.

Obama Puts U.S. Lives at Risk with Open Borders

Americans for Legal Immigration PAC today called on the Obama administration to immediately close the southern border and restrict all inbound air and ground traffic from Mexico to emergencies and product delivery to protect American lives from the Mexican Swine Flu outbreak.

“The Obama administration’s failure to secure our borders against a possible pandemic is putting American lives at risk at a time when days and hours matter,” said William Gheen of ALIPAC. “The weak and inadequate ‘passive surveillance’ described during Sunday’s press conference is offensive to the rational mind.”

Republican voters had sent Arlen Specter to the Senate five times, but faced with the prospect of a strong challenge from conservative Pat Toomey in the GOP primary and the state trending Democratic, Specter jumped ship.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told FOX News that Specter’s decision puts a lot of red state Democrats, who campaigned on conservative credentials, under a lot of pressure to step up.

“They may be the only thing that can stop this radical liberal agenda,” he said. “The big loser could be the red state Democrats.”

Donors demand refund from Specter
Sen. Arlen Specter’s switch to the Democratic Party is prompting his campaign donors large and small to demand their money back, including several Republican senators whose political action committees gave tens of thousands of dollars to the Pennsylvania lawmaker.

Sen. Johnny Isakson didn’t waste any time putting himself at the front of the refund line. He was going to lose the next election anyways! I feel that there was a few democrats that ran and was elected under the Republican Party and he was one of them! The sooner he is gone the better. What do you think?
