Gov. Perry Backs Resolution Affirming Texas’ Sovereignty Under 10th Amendment

“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said. “That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.” Keep reading

State governors — looking down the gun barrel of long-term spending forced on them by the Obama “stimulus” plan — are saying they will refuse to take the money.  This is a Constitutional confrontation between the federal government and the states unlike any in our time.

In the first five weeks of his presidency, Barack Obama has acted so rashly that at least 11 states have decided that his brand of “hope” equates to an intolerable expansion of the federal government’s authority over the states. These states — Washington, New Hampshire, Arizona, Montana, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, California, Georgia, South Carolina, and Texas — have passed resolutions reminding Obama that the 10th Amendment protects the rights of the states, which are the rights of the people, by limiting the power of the federal government. I wish Tennessee would add it’s name to the list also. It’s about time the states stood up to the creature they created.

Is it a sovereignty issue or a ploy to break up the United States?

  3. goodtimepolitics says:

I think its sovereignty because the people see that Obama will try and push laws that the States does not agree with..one such law is the abortion and another is gun control!

  4. goodtimepolitics says:

The States are getting serious about this Obama big time spending. I have updated the post!

It is not about breaking up the United States or anything so radical. It is simply a statement to the Federal Government reminding them of the strict limits placed upon them by our Constitution. The STATES established the Constitution to direct the Federal Government to act as their AGENT, not the other way around. The Federal Government has begun to assume authority and rights beyond the scope of the Constitution and has mandated regulatory functions within the states that it has no right or authority to. This is simply a case of people telling their Federal Government not to meddle with the authority of their State and local governments. After all, governments rule by the consent of their people. In many cases the people through the Constitution have never consented to some of the Federal government’s actions.

  6. H. Rice says:

Maybe the states should come together to clarify what the feel are the powers of the federal government …… and possibly submit a new amendment to the constitution limiting federal powers.

  • Where I’m coming from!

As a person that's been around the country and seen what America was and now what she has became makes me sick. I keep up with the news and what's going on and try to state my opinion of the way I feel about the U.S. Government and the way it's dictating our every day personal lives. I'm not a conservative or am I a liberal, just call me a good American citizen that will vote for the person based on their past history. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy the post I make.
