Oh I think he will close Gitmo, but it will be at least a year if not longer. He will have to come up with a new court system for them and no telling what else. But in the main time the far left will be happy because Obama is working on closing Gitmo! President Bush was also trying to close Gitmo and running into the same problems!
check the link out that I just added to the post above! "Pay attention to Eric Holder’s law firm and Gitmo detainees".

So I have a thoery, maybe I'm thinking "outside the box", is it possible that he's only saying he's going to close GITMO, knowing that every Gov, and Congressman is going to oppose such an idea, so that when it doesn't happend, he can blame them? Therefore, he "attempted" to make good on one of his promises.

He wants to look serious about closing Gitmo, but he's leaving himself some time, aka "wiggle room," before having actually to get serious about it Meantime, I think it's all within his legal purview, closing it or not, but, yeah, if enough congresspeople cry NIMBY, he may give it up.

What you are saying is that Obama is trying to look as if he is serious about closing Gitmo but if the democrats and others in congress stops him, then he is in the clear? Otherwise a look good deal!

You know. I suspect that what the O-team is trying to do here is make symbolic changes sufficient to satisfy the moonbat-media base and the Yurpeen critics, without seriously impairing the war effort. Instead of GItmo, we'll have (per the plan, at least) a lot of little gitmos. Instead of waterboarding when necessary, we'll ban torture ... except waterboarding, when necessary. These changes are costly and potentially dangerous, but they do suggest that someone near the top is taking the war seriously. I worry more about the domestic policy front. If Obama does enough damage to the economy and national morale, the jihadis will just have the honor of finishing us off.
