Williams Ayers denied entry into Canada
Toronto educators canceled a series of lectures and meetings featuring Williams Ayers today after Canadian border officers Sunday night refused to allow the Chicago resident and professor to leave the airport in Toronto.
After Ayers’ flight landed at 6 p.m., Kugler said he and an attorney waited until 10:30 p.m. before officials from the Canadian Border Services Agency told them that Ayers had been put back onto a plane to Chicago.Officials with the Canadian government referred questions on the matter to the Canadian Border Services Agency. Why is anyone still interested in this creature? Are you obsessed? Are you trying to validate him? He had his 15 minutes of fame ages ago and yet you still continue to resurrect him, allowing him to bask in his past glory. I’m sure he loves the attention. Look up irrelevant in the dictionary and his picture shows up. Think about why you continue to waste your energies on a washed out leftover of a bygone era. This is akin to holding a grudge against the kid who stole your milk money in first grade and you now live in a nursing home. Stop living in the past and get a real life.
What counts as the past? Recall that he and Bhussein Annenberg Obama were still handing out millions to school-subversion projects until, what, 2002? The guy’s a menace and tight with the new boss. He must be watched.
This creature ” Bill Ayers” must had interested Barack Obama as they were friends and I have no reason to think that they are not still friends!
I would bet that you and luke will have more influence on Obama than Ayers, GTP.
Canada has done a big favour to Ayers, because it has made him a martyr: the Great Educator, who is being denied free speech, because of his ‘radical’ past. Now, Ayers is not an educator — neither small, medium or big — and has nothing to say about education other than some new age platitudes, a fact he will not have to expose by speaking.
Ayers is being hyped by the media as ‘the former anti-war activist who is the representative of the militant Left’. This poses as extremes of the debate.
Ayers wasn’t and isn’t the representative of the anti-war/civil rights movement of the ’60, but its destroyer. He wasn’t and isn’t the ‘enhancer of human potential in children’, but a provocateur whose target was and is ordinary working people.
Both positions (defense of/opposition to ‘Bill, the Leftist, activist par excellence’) constitute a terrible attack on the Left itself, because they both identify the Left with terror (e.g., bombings as ‘militant’ anti-war protest, not to speak of the Weathermen’s robbery-murders).
One of Ayers’ and the Weathermen’s main opponents in SDS (Students for a Democratic Society), Jared Israel, has exposed Ayers lies and explained why Ayers (and the Weathermen) are so influential and destructive today as they were in the ’70 and the ’80.

OK, I skimmed all four parts of the “Redeemed” story. I’m sure Israel is right that the Weather types were un-representative of the New Left. I knew SDSers in my salad days, and the more active and committed they were, the less impressed they were by Weather antics (and they were all Marxists, btw). Two points, though:
1) It’s the fellow travelers, the fashion Lefties, those whose commitments were merely convenient — urged by self-regard, conformity, or ambition — who now own the commanding heights of the opinion and education industries, and to them Ayers is a glamorous outlaw and a nostalgic totem. No grand conspiracy is required to explain their trying to rehabilitate him.
2) The interesting thing about the Obama-Ayers connection is not that Obama first denied it, then discounted it. “He would say that, wouldn’t he.” What’s interesting is that he was recruited by Ayers to head the Great Annenberg Challenge Handout. Obama seems to have been perfectly comfortable with the project of funding lefto education subversives. Either he was way farther left in his sympathies than he’s let on, or he was remarkably cynical in using do-gooder bucks to pay off political supporters, or both. I’m inclined to think he’s a genuine radical, a stealth radical for now.
Before reading Jared Israel’s articles I was already questioning on the basis of their extraordinary free pass in 1980 if Ayers and Dohrn were not agents provocateurs /CIA.
Their entire career only makes sense seen in that light. They destroyed the SDS and did terrible damage to the left. The Black Panthers had this view of them – middle class dangerous posers or agent provocateurs. The prolongued Ayers – Obama link through the 80s and 90s to date along with his employment as a graduate at BIC a CIA front raise the same question about Obama himself.
