Lowery ‘just insulted this country’ prompts Obama smile
Outrage is erupting over the inauguration benediction by Rev. Joseph Lowery, an 87-year-old civil rights pioneer, for asking God to help mankind work for a day when “white would embrace what is right.”
Then he ended his prayer with, “Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get back, when brown can stick around – when yellow will be mellow – when the red man can get ahead, man – and when white will embrace what is right.”
Obama reacted to the benediction with a smile.
The crowd cheered and boomed with a loud “Amen.”
I made a comment earlier on another post that this wasn’t white against blacks or blacks against whites, but maybe it is blacks against whites after reading the above! Obama calls that bring people together?

Not all whites have embraced what is right, which is a true statement. That seems to be all Lowery was saying. Don’t try to turn it into a culture war.
Americans are more concerned about the economy and two REAL wars than about the culture wars of the soundly repudiated Religious Right. Their time has passed.

The question is whether we take full advantage of what is shaping up to be a rout and truly press our advantage. Our enemy is on the retreat. We can’t let them get away and regroup.
