Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is advising President-elect Barack Obama that he should move forward with “fundamental change” – not just in foreign policy, but in U.S. domestic policy as well.
Friday’s Washington Post reprinted the letter, in which Ahmadinejad congratulates Obama on winning the Nov. 4 election.
The Iranian president then goes on to lecture the President-elect: Read More

Its going to be interesting how Barack handles Iran. Do you think direct talks will be the way to go or should Obama stay the Bush course on this issue? Jimmy Carter tried talking to Iran and got no where.
There’s little or no point in talking to Iran while the Ayatollahs are running the show from outside the view of the Western MSM. They hold onto their power by being anti-US and therefor talks or negotiations are useless.
When it comes to Iran, for the most part, I agree with Jonolan above. For now, the leaders of Iran are just playing the game of retaining power. There are many voices in Iran. They won’t all be silenced forever.
As far as Jimmy Carter, no one listens to Jimmy Carter. Hardly something you blame President Ahmadinejad for.

From your web page Mythos you’re a Hamas fan why?
I went to his blog. Mythos seems more anti-Israel (anti-Likud?) than pro-Hamas – at least the first few posts had nothing good to say about Hamas, but much bad to say about Israel in general.
Frankly, I agree with some of Mythos’ points about Israel. Their hands aren’t clean of blood and bile either in this multi-decade long fiasco – but then neither is the UN who essentially created the modern state of Israel.
The UN is worthless anymore! I was just trying to get Mythos to tell me why he feels the way he does about Israel, cause I think Hamas is terrorist and Iran is up to its knees in this.
It was always useless, now it’s bordering on being worse than useless and actually being vehicle for evil.
I stopped by your blog jonolan, I couldn’t stick around long as my heart started racing!
This is scary.
What is scary, should not be as long as Obama handles it right.
goodtimepolitics,
I am not “a Hamas fan.”
I do not approve of the killing of innocent civilians, Israeli or Palestinian, for any reason. Especially when one side is much more technologically advanced.
You also commented, “I was just trying to get Mythos to tell me why he feels the way he does about Israel, cause I think Hamas is terrorist and Iran is up to its knees in this.”
I agree, Hamas commits acts of terror; but so does the militaries and private citizens of Israel, the U.S., Iran, Russia, China, Japan, etc. If you condemn one for the crime, you must condemn all for it.

So you put the U.S. in the same boat as Hamas and iran as terrorist! Thanks for telling me that you’re a nut Mythos , I guess you think the US government flew the planes into the World Trade Buildings on 911 also!
Not at all. I said, “militaries and private citizens”, and I stick by that.
From Timothy Mcveigh to atrocities in Vietnam. From Guantanamo to Iraq. There are instances in every country of atrocities being committed, that fit the label of terrorism.
As far as your nut comment, it shows what type of person you really are.

I think it about your check out time isn’t it? And I stick with saying you’re a nut, because anyone calling The United States a terrorist state or our military terrorist is slam out of their minds! You have a good day, don’t forget to take your nerve pill.
Obama’ father was Muslim, they see him as Muslim. Hamas youth canvassed, and supported him during the election.
He was chosen, and appointed P.O.T.U.S, let us see where this is going to lead us.
Muslim Law is totally different from Christian Laws. Hamas will not stop fighting Isreal even if Obama open dialogue. HATE is a part of this problem.
OBAMA STATES HE WOULD ALWAYS SIDE WITH THE MUSLIMS IF THE POLITICAL WINDS CHANGES.
There is a YOUTH REBELLION all over the world. Obama is not GOD, and must not be expected to FIX all these problems. America must now look at our own Youth many of whom are fighting to be heard.
Many voted for him, and is now waiting for their ‘SHARE OF THE PIE’.
Look at OAKLAND, hopefully he will be able to handle the UPRISINGS HERE.
Many Youth here refuses to listen to their families, what make you think that Hamas Youth will listen to their leaders?
They are already looking at Obama as a traitor to their cause. He will face major problems all around, at home and abroad.
God help us all
George the Vet, some good points there. Yes, as far as the ummah are concerned, once a muslim, always a muslim. Whether the Obama’s muslim background will be a help or a hindrance in dealing with the jihadis is anyone’s guess. As for youth unrest worldwide, I suspect there are different causes, depending. In Europe, for instance, the lack of job opportunities in the continent’s stagnant, state-run economies is probably the main cause. As our economy comes more to resemble the Yurps’ (nearly all of O’s proposals are entry-level job killers), we can expect the same. Oakland is a special case, I think. If we can keep cops from shooting people just for the hell of it, we should be OK on that front.
goodtimepolitics, you sound “dated” so I will just assume your comments are a result of being stuck in your old ways.
If you view anyone, any country and/or any group as not committing acts of terrorism when they kill innocent men, women & children, then I don’t know what to say to you.
I don’t view anyone as being a “nut” when they are more concerned for innocent people being caught in the middle of a conflict then they are for idiots and their politics. It is simply compassion, something you seem to be unfamiliar with.
The labels you place on people and/or the reasons you give to justify the actions of countries (including the U.S.) does nothing to take away the pain from a parent who watched their child/children slaughtered in front of them like vermin!
If you can sit there without feeling anything for those families, then you sir are the nut.

Mythos
Two situations. In the first, a child is killed when she runs out into the street after her lost ball and is struck by a driver on his way to work. In the second, a child is waiting to cross the street when a drunk driver jumps the curb and kills her. Now, the child is dead and the family devastated either way, but surely there is something morally different in the two situations.
Another two situations. In the first, a child is killed when combatants fire grenades from her classroom and the other side fires back. In the second, a child is killed when terrorists fire a rocket that impacts in her classroom. Most grown-ups (you sound dated yourself) would recognize a kind of culpability in the second situation that is not present in the first. Dig?
And if you genuinely feel that collateral damage is the same as terrorism, then what war has ever been fought that is not essentially terrorist? Is violence always and everywhere forbidden? How long do you think Israel would have survived had she not used violence against the forces seeking to destroy her?
Actually, the terrorists who put Arab children at risk in the one situation aren’t really doing much better than the terrorists who target Israeli children. But you see my point. Israelis in pursuit of legitimate objectives do not intend primarily to kill civilians and are fastidious (to my mind, overly so) in protecting civilians. Hamas does intend to kill civilians, when they rocket Israeli civilians and when they fight from among densely packed Arab civilians.
I think Ron Paul said it best:
United States House of Representatives
Statement on H Res 34, Recognizing Israel’s right to defend itself against attacks from Gaza, Reaffirming the United States strong support for Israel, and supporting the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. January 09, 2009
By Ron Paul
January 10, 2009 — Madame Speaker, I strongly oppose H. Res. 34, which was rushed to the floor with almost no prior notice and without consideration by the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The resolution clearly takes one side in a conflict that has nothing to do with the United States or US interests. I am concerned that the weapons currently being used by Israel against the Palestinians in Gaza are made in America and paid for by American taxpayers. What will adopting this resolution do to the perception of the United States in the Muslim and Arab world? What kind of blowback might we see from this? What moral responsibility do we have for the violence in Israel and Gaza after having provided so much military support to one side?
As an opponent of all violence, I am appalled by the practice of lobbing homemade rockets into Israel from Gaza. I am only grateful that, because of the primitive nature of these weapons, there have been so few casualties among innocent Israelis. But I am also appalled by the longstanding Israeli blockade of Gaza — a cruel act of war — and the tremendous loss of life that has resulted from the latest Israeli attack that started last month.
There are now an estimated 700 dead Palestinians, most of whom are civilians. Many innocent children are among the dead. While the shooting of rockets into Israel is inexcusable, the violent actions of some people in Gaza does not justify killing Palestinians on this scale. Such collective punishment is immoral. At the very least, the US Congress should not be loudly proclaiming its support for the Israeli government’s actions in Gaza.
Madame Speaker, this resolution will do nothing to reduce the fighting and bloodshed in the Middle East. The resolution in fact will lead the US to become further involved in this conflict, promising “vigorous support and unwavering commitment to the welfare, security, and survival of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state.” Is it really in the interest of the United States to guarantee the survival of any foreign country? I believe it would be better to focus on the security and survival of the United States, the Constitution of which my colleagues and I swore to defend just this week at the beginning of the 111th Congress. I urge my colleagues to reject this resolution.

That’s swell. Also beside the point. Are you or are you not claiming that causing non-combatant deaths is wrong under all possible wartime circumstances?
(Oh, and, just for the record, Dr. Paul is an nth degree squirrel.)

Obama may need to focus more on stemming the rise of Islamic extremism.
Newsflash – in war there are no crimes until the victor tries the loser and condemns him to die for his crimes. As yet, there is no winner in Gaza, so therefore no crimes, just continued warfare. Moralizing about war is childish.
