Sharecropper’s grandson Terrance Carroll was chosen Wednesday as speaker of Colorado’s House of Representatives, making the state the first in the nation where blacks lead both chambers of its Legislature.
The milestone is most remarkable in a state where blacks are just 4 percent of the population – and where decades ago the Ku Klux Klan held sway over the Capitol. READ MORE
Why would the KKK’s even be brought up in this article?
For progressives, demonstrating always how morally advanced one is is crucial to self-esteem, and demonstrating the correct racial wordview is an especially good indicator of moral advancement. “In both houses the only black member is now our leader! That’s how advanced Colorado is! Plus, we voted for Obama, so you mustn’t think Colorado is conservative, or morally backward in any other way.” Bringing up the Klan of the 20′s (who “held sway over the Capitol” in a number of states besides Colorado) leads the reader to appreciate just how far Coloradans had to come before reaching this point of moral near-perfection and also suggests to the reader that anyone who’d oppose our new leaders is a moral Klansman, the type of person who would outlaw communion wine, for example.
Congratulations, Colorado!
It wasn’t enough for Terrance Carroll to be black he also had to be a sharecropper’s grandson. Far removed from a sharecropper I would say, but had to bring it up just the same! Is all this talk of black and sharecroppers to make us feel something different for this person? I didn’t think it matter if the people running for office was black or white, it sure must matter to some! Racist?
People on the Left are far more conscious of race than people on the Right.
Being the grandson of sharecroppers seems to lend some sort of authenticity to a pol’s resume. John Edwards claims to be one, after all.
