Gov. Bill Ritter supports the idea of bringing terror suspects to Colorado to be housed at the federal Supermax prison in Florence. Go here for more
Colorado Springs congressman fears closing the prison housing terror suspects at the Navy base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, could result in their being transferred to Colorado.
Rep. Doug Lamborn, a first-term Republican, toured the military prison Friday and said afterward he doesn’t want the 250 detainees there moved to federal prisons, including the high-security Supermax in Florence, south of Colorado Springs.
“There are some people here who are bent on destroying our way of life,” Lamborn said in a phone interview, referring to the “enemy combatants” captured during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Lamborn has no specific information on moving the prisoners, but he said Supermax is a logical site for relocation if Guantanamo is closed.
The federal Bureau of Prisons said Friday that while it has been successful at keeping terrorists behind bars, the agency isn’t relishing the thought that 250 detainees could be dumped in their system.

Those Guantanamo Bay “enemy combatants” prisoners if moved to Colorado will have the same rights as the Colorado Springs American citizens have. These prisoners want to kill Americans and we want them living next door? I understand that Colorado is Obama country so I can see why they would welcome the Guantanamo Bay prisoners!
LINK: Colorado Springs: America’s 3rd Drunkest City
Colorado is gaining a bad reputation. For several years, Colorado Springs was voted one of the drunkest cities in the country.
Here is the sobering truth: Each city was ranked in five areas; number of dui arrests, number of fatal drunk driving crashes, number of binge drinkers, number of alcohol related liver disease deaths and how many M.A.D.D. programs we have to cut down on excessive drinking.Colorado Springs ranks high across the board. So we did our own investigation on the rankings. Starting with Pam Vanoverbeke of our local M.A.D.D. chapter.
“Colorado Springs currently, it’s a little bit scary. We’ve had about 17 fatalities. 13 of those have been alcohol related,” says Vanoverbeke.
Sounds like a good place to send the Guantanamo Bay (terrorist) prisoners and they all can get drunk together. Even the DA was caught drinking and driving while on the job! Maybe the people of Colorado Springs and the terrorist can join AAA rehab!

You still don’t get it, do you? On what basis are you claiming that Gitmo prisoners moved to Colorado (or anywhere else in the U.S.) would automatically get all the rights of a U.S. citizen? That’s never been the position of ANYBODY, right, left, or center. You continually duck this question, because you know you don’t have a decent answer. Foreign prisoners — even if released — don’t have a right to stay in this country, so this nonsense about them living next door is just that: nonsense.
I happen to live in Colorado Springs, and if these guys would be housed at SuperMax, I would have no problem whatsoever. I’ve never once encountered the Unabomber in my local supermarket. Timothy McVeigh (before he was executed) never attended Sunday services at my church. Richard Reid (the “shoe bomber terrorist”) hasn’t been hanging out at the local elementary school playground.
It’s not called “SuperMax” for nothing.
U.S. laws that prevent the deportation of people to countries where they could face torture or other human rights abuses, as in the case of 17 Chinese Muslim separatists who have been cleared for release but fear they could be executed for political reasons if returned to China.
The prisoners’ countries do not want them back. Yemen, for instance, has balked at accepting some of the 106 Yemeni nationals at Guantanamo by challenging the legality of their citizenship.
Human rights groups have pressed the U.S. government to offer the men asylum.
A senior U.S. official who spoke on condition of anonymity said that the Bush administration had considered granting the Uighurs asylum but that the idea was nixed by the Department of Homeland Security.

You are the stupid one diogenes and why are you stupid when it comes to anything that Obama said he was going to do! I can tell you that it was color you voted for and not the issues. You don’t seem to have studied American laws at all, oh but you do know how to spell. Then you’re like all the far left nuts out there name calling without a reason except racist!

Delivering a sharp rebuke to the Bush Administration, federal Judge Ricardo Urbina today ordered the government to immediately release into the United States 17 former suspected “enemy combatants” who have been imprisoned seven years at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The liberals are trying to get these prisoners released onto American soil. I suggest that you spend alittle time in school on the laws of America diogenes!
Ordering a prisoner’s release and ordering that they be allowed to remain at large in the U.S. are two very different things. You said yourself that DHS nixed any idea of the Uighurs being granted asylum. Sure , some “human rights groups” will probably push for it, but if you seriously believe that there’s a chance of that happening, you better check in with Chicken Little.
As for their home countries not allowing them to be deported, you’re right, in many cases. But that doesn’t mean they’ll wander aimlessly through American streets.
And for the record, redneck, I studied a lot of American law and history. Actually, I maored in U.S. History as an undergrad, and then I went on to law school — graduated, passed the bar, and practiced law for fifteen years or so. Then I quit and, for the last decade, I’ve been teaching U.S. History in high schools.
And yes, I can spell.
And I have been the president of the United States for 50 years! You are one big stupid laugh. Who do you think is Obama supporters if its not the far left looneys! diogenes you just told us that you was not a very smart at practicing law (if thats true) because teaching is such a low paying job compare to being a lawyer! If you feel its ok to call others redneck then I guess you’re inviting people to call you nigger!
diogenes purveying the moonbat version of US history to blank young minds. No wonder we’re in trouble.
Hey, GTP, here’s interesting. It appears that one of Obama’s pet law firms was already thinking in terms of amending the Constitution a couple years back, just in case, you know, someone who wasn’t a US citizen wanted to be president. If it should turn out that Obama really does have a constitutional problem, we’ll have to wonder: what did his sponsors know and when did they know it.

From what I read from the news coming out of Colorado Springs is that everyone is drunks there including the DA.
Thanks, this constitutional problem could prove his downfall before his 4 years in office is up. Its going to be interesting to see if the courts hears his Birth Cert issue on 5 Dec or if they throw it out.
LOL Seen this TV ad? There’s a “Certificate Of Authenticity,” but I wouldn’t be surprised if it were forged.
They’ll throw it out, almost for certain.
Funny ting about being a lawyer is that I learned, the hard way, that making money isn’t the most important thing in my life. Sure, I struggle now, given the salaries that taxpayers pay their teachers, but I knew that going on, and I’ll survive.
There aren’t 70 million “far left looneys”, GTP. So obvisously a helluva lot more people than “far left looneys” voted for Obama.
The DA here in Colorado Springs did have an issue with drinking, especially drinking during working hours. he was a Republican, by the way, and he was soundly defeated in last August’s primary. I voted against him, as I am (or was) a registered Republican from 1973 until the day AFTER this August’s primary!
You’re welcome to call me what you want, but it’d just show your utter stupidity to call me a racial epithet for African-American. Especially since I’m white! LMOA “There you go again” as RR would say: you’re making stupid assumptions, GTP!
You’re that one that started name calling diogenes and now you are trying to use racist just because someone called you who you are. That change from Republican to democrat shows that you voted for skin color and not the issues as you claim! I’m a democrat and has been all my life, but I have voted for republican presidents the last 3 times because the democrats has slipped off the far left side of the World!
More wild-eyed assertions from GTP without a shred of evidence.
That you assume everyone who voted for Obama voted “for color” tells the world all they need to know about you and your politics, GTP. Educated and articulate people like diogenes speaking about Obama just doesn’t fit your narrow concepts of the world and it pisses you off! That’s why you insist on calling diogenes “stupid” – he’s a threat to your twisted belief system.
Only the lunatic fringe believe that Obama isn’t an American citizen. His mother was an American, making Barack an American no matter where he was born. End of story.
Another one stupid when it comes to the laws of America! Are you sure you two moonbats have your passports up to date!

So there are plenty of horrible criminals sent to supermax but noone made a news article about them. These people also hate america. I don;t know why this is such a big deal. Also, why blame Obama for keeping these people in prison?
Independent: why blame Obama for keeping these people in prison?
goodtimepolitics: I think you have your mind messed up with all that kool-aid….it will be blame Obama if he close Gitmo and brings these terrorist to our soil where they killed 3000 americans. Yes thats right, what Obama does now he has to take the blame!
Oh it looks like you will have these terrorist living next door in Colorado!
