George Miller seems to believe, as most liberal Democrats in Washington DC do, that all money in the country belongs to government. They then think that they should decide how much money you need.

Just a couple of weeks ago I commented on how Argentina is going to nationalize the private pensions (i.e. IRA, 401ks) of its citizens so they can fund their bankrupt government that is spending too much money.
I didn’t know our government was already plotting to steal our retirement accounts.

Obama Would Risk Backlash With Gas-Drilling Reversal

President-elect Barack Obama risks a political backlash and legal battles if he tries to reverse moves by President George W. Bush to expand natural-gas drilling in Utah.

An Election Day announcement that the federal Bureau of Land Management plans to lease more than 350,000 acres for oil and gas drilling in Utah, including areas adjacent to Arches National Park, drew fire from environmental groups who accused the Bush administration of giving the oil industry a gift on the way out of office. The bureau denies that politics played a role in the decision.

Sunday, John Podesta, who is helping to lead Mr. Obama’s transition team, singled out the Utah leases as one decision the Obama administration might try to reverse.

Mr. Obama must walk a tightrope as he tries to balance the expectations of his environmentalist supporters against broader public concerns over energy prices and his campaign promises to promote energy independence, said Denise Bode, chief executive of the American Clean Skies Foundation, a nonprofit advocacy group backed by the natural-gas industry. Ms. Bode noted that Mr. Obama has talked about the need to develop the nation’s natural-gas resources.

John P. Burke, a professor at the University of Vermont who wrote a book on presidential transitions, said the incoming administration risks a partisan backlash if it clamps down too hard on drilling — especially coming off a campaign in which a potent Republican rallying cry was “Drill, baby, drill!”

Industry groups already are laying the groundwork for a battle, arguing that if energy prices start to rise again, it will be the antidrilling Democrats who are to blame.

The president-elect’s advisers quietly craft a proposal to ship dozens, if not hundreds, of imprisoned terrorism suspects to the United States to face criminal trials

President-elect Obama’s advisers are crafting plans to close the Guantanamo Bay prison and prosecute terrorism suspects in the U.S., a plan that the Bush administration said Monday was easier said than done.

Under the plan being crafted inside Obama’s camp, some detainees would be released and others would be charged in U.S. courts, where they would receive constitutional rights and open trials. But, underscoring the difficult decisions Obama must make to fulfill his pledge of shutting down Guantanamo, the plan could require the creation of a new legal system to handle the classified information inherent in some of the most sensitive cases.

Many of the about 250 Guantanamo detainees are cleared for release, but the Bush administration has not been to find a country willing to take them.

The plan being developed by Obama’s team has been championed by legal scholars from both political parties. But as details surfaced Monday, it drew criticism from Democrats who oppose creating a new legal system and from Republicans who oppose bringing terrorism suspects to the U.S. mainland.

The move would mark a sharp change from the Bush administration, which established military tribunals to prosecute detainees at the Navy base in Cuba and strongly opposes bringing prisoners to the United States. At the White House, spokeswoman Dana Perino said Monday that President Bush has faced many challenges in trying to close the prison.

“We’ve tried very hard to explain to people how complicated it is. When you pick up people off the battlefield that have a terrorist background, it’s not just so easy to let them go,” Perino said. “These issues are complicated, and we have put forward a process that we think would work in order to put them on trial through military tribunals.”
