Promise#1 – Complete withdrawal of U.S. troops within 16 months

BAGHDAD: Many in Iraq said Wednesday they don’t expect an immediate shift in U.S. policy toward their country when Barack Obama takes over as the new U.S. president, despite his calls for a complete withdrawal of U.S. troops within 16 months.

The foreign minister said Obama told Iraqi leaders earlier this year during meetings in Baghdad and Washington that “any decision that concerns Iraq would be taken after thorough discussions with the Iraqi government and field military leaders.”

Salim Abdullah, spokesman for the largest Sunni parliamentary bloc, agreed.

“We are not concerned that he will take a unilateral decision to move troops quickly from Iraq,” Abdullah told The Associated Press.

  1. If he wants to put our country first, he will focus on the economy that is after all, what he won the election on. With that said, There are plans now in place for full troop withdrawal by 2012. If things keep getting better over there..guess who will take credit for it? Why Obama of course.

Seriously, my opinion is he wants to get re elected in 2012, So while we will have to gear up for things like the fairness doctrine fight…and other things. I wonder how many feathers he will actually ruffle. After all, he spent 2 years running for the office. He will probably not want to abandon that power in 4 years. But then again, who knows? We really do not know Obama.

  2. I don’t think he will have the money to spend, spend and spend like he would like to! He will be lucky to get anything done, cause he will have to get things past the blue dog democrats as well as the republicans! He will have to stay away from the far left.
